3 years later and I’m finally pursuing my dream

one of my ALL time favorite looks – September 2016

It all started at the end of 2014.

I had just graduated college and was working in digital marketing in Grand Rapids. While I loved the people I worked with, my patience was slowly running out on the job (sound familiar?). With college behind me, I had this newfound freedom in the evenings; no homework, group project meetings or tests to study for. I had the idea to start my own wardrobe consulting company on the side. I started drafting the website, sketching the logo and brainstorming ideas for styling packages.

And then fear got in the way.

What if I failed? What if no one wanted my help? What if this whole “starting your own business” idea was a flop?

I changed jobs, moved houses, and life kept on moving. So much has happened since graduation in 2014. I’ve changed, my relationships have changed, people have come in and out of my life, I’ve experienced more, and learned how to get the hell out of my comfort zone.

Fast forward and it is April 2017. I still have the same dream I did in 2014. I still love helping people feel amazing and confident in their clothing. I still love helping people develop their personal style. My heart is happy when someone texts me telling me how great they feel in an outfit I helped them style, or how many compliments they received, or how they’re standing taller and speaking louder.

Some may think it is trivial, to put so much emphasis on one’s personal style, but when you are confident in yourself and your appearance people can feel it and see it. Personal style is a reflection of you, and you want to put your best foot forward.

Your style doesn’t have to fall into a certain category – you don’t have to wear all vintage items, or all trendy items, or strictly classic pieces. You can create your own style, mixing in certain vintage pieces that make you feeling amazing, preppy styles that you love wearing, or classics that flatter your body shape.

So that dream from 2014 of starting my own wardrobe consulting company on the side?

Yep, I’m doing it. I’ve done multiple trial runs and started taking paying customers out in California and I’m beyond excited to bring it to the Midwest this summer.

    So exciting!

And should you decide you do any of this virtually… Let me know. I am STRUGGLING with wardrobe after getting in shape. Nothing seems to fit right and I have no clue as to what sort of personal style I’m going after. I have a whole psychological theory behind it.

    Yay for new businesses!
