…and its really quite simple.

I was sitting in the St. Louis airport on Monday afternoon charging my phone when the older woman next to me dropped her sweatshirt. Since she was in a wheelchair, I picked it back up and handed it to her. She thanked me, introduced herself, then asked for help making sure her phone was charging. We got her set up, and she started chatting with me (truly I wasn’t exactly in the mood to chat, but when a kind older woman in a wheelchair wants to chat in the airport you do it). Her name is Heather, and she was in a wheelchair because she broke her rib the week prior but didn’t want to cancel her vacation.

Fast forward 10 minutes and our flight is starting to board. She asks me if I can wheel her onto the plane and help with her suitcase, since she isn’t supposed to be lifting much. I agree and we head on our way. Because we were flying Southwest, this meant I got to jump the entire line and board early. I hate sitting in the back of the plane so I was thrilled when I snagged a front row aisle seat after helping her get settled. She then proceeded to hand me a VIP Club Card that was good for up to $200 off a hotel room anywhere in the world to thank me for helping her.

The point of this isn’t to prove to you that I’m a kind person (you can think whatever the heck you want about me), but to remind us all that being kind really is the way to go. It took minimal effort for me to pick up her sweatshirt and help her get settled on the plane, but it made a world of difference for her.  Next time you see someone that needs help, just do it, you never know what can happen (or who you will meet!)

A quick bit about this top...

I snagged it from Shopbop (its under $100) and it is so fun to wear. I have a feeling I will be wearing it frequently, as I’m already planning for the next time I can. I wore this out for our first night in Nashville, and actually was told by a bouncer that it was “really cute.” Who knew bouncers used the phrase “really cute?”

Not everyone loves it like I do, as B thinks I look like a picnic blanket or the winner of the strawberry jam making contest haha. Regardless, it comes in three colors if you’re interested (here) and this floral lucite clutch is under $36 and available here!

Hoping you all have a wonderful weekend! I’m looking forward to a low key weekend, since the last 3 have involved plane rides and visitors.

xo, Maddy

[…] 4.) Gingham Shirts — if your style tends to be more classic, a gingham button down is great piece to add to your closet. I shared an entire post here on how verastile mine is, and I promise you will get plenty of use out of it!
