Before I dive into today’s post I wanted to touch on what’s happening in the US. It feels dumb to write about fashion, fitness or talk about my personal goals when they are so trivial in comparison.

I’m not a political person, and never have been. But now I’m mad. And I very rarely get mad. So, instead of shoving my political opinions down people’s throats or sharing on Facebook, I’ve been trying to use my time more wisely. The chances are slim you will change someone’s mind about something, so instead of arguing I recommend educating yourself, letting your senators know your stance (you can find out theirs here), donating time/money to organizations that support your beliefs, and BEING KIND.

If you’re pro-women, pro-earth and pro-immigrant like myself, then HERE is list of charities you can donate your time and resources to.

I’m struggling to verbalize how I feel and I know I’m not alone. Taylor touched on some of my feelings in THIS POST and THIS POST.

Lastly, I just signed up for re:act. Direct from their site re:act is “a list of a few concrete things you can do to take action during the Trump presidency. Delivered via e-mail once a week.”

Moving forward I do plan to keep the content here on Cassidy Lou positive, so be prepared for the normal fitness, fashion, DIY, food, life experiences, travel, but I felt that something had to be said. Even though I’m not posting or writing about what’s happening, know that I am following along and doing what I can (and you should too!)

And now, let’s talk about goals.

We’re officially one month into 2017!

By posting updates on my goals I hope to hold myself accountable and inspire you to keep working toward yours.  I shared my goals here – not all my goals are measurable monthly, so I will touch on the ones that are.

Fitness & Health Goals:

The good:

  • still movin’ & groovin’ with Annie & training
  • successfully gave up office candy & bagels in January – I’m going to keep going strong on the no office candy & bagels for February and also add in Sprinkles cupcakes (there is one about a mile from our place and it is DANGEROUS!)

What I need to work on:

  • I didn’t do any yoga in January (UGH!) but I did stretch and foam roll a lot more than usual at home. Going to get my booty to yoga in February.
  • Body confidence and not saying negative things about my body

Life Goals:

The good:

  • On track with my goal of at least one book per month. I read Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson (highly recommend) & am working my way through Straight Man by Richard Russo.
    • PS. Since I’m back in the swing of reading for fun I’m planning on doing a post with everything I’ve read in the last few months soon.
  • I’m on track with the 52 weeks of saving plan (whoop!)
  • Donated to PetSmart Charities this month, and ACLU and Planned Parenthood will be receiving donations from me in February.

What I need to work on:

  • mindful purchases – I started out the month strong…but then all the pretty things won me over (serious eye roll here)

Travel Goals:

The good:

  • I hop on a plane for San Francisco on February 3rd (this Friday!) and I can’t wait
  • I’m flying into St. Louis to see Casey for a night before we drive to Nashville for Allison’s Bachelorette later this month (so pumped)

What I need to work on:

  • planning a weekend trip to Salton Sea & Joshua Tree

How are you all progressing on your goals? Feeling good? Needing a kick in the butt? I would love to hear from you.

xo, Maddy

As for goals…let’s just say I stopped my new year’s resolutions after a week (insert eye-roll). But I’ve come up with some other ones!

Lastly, I love your outfit. Yellow + blue is dreamy. And I want those flats!

Oh I can’t even with the state of things now … I have never been a political person but I have been doing so much reading lately. It is scary.

Anyway, you sound like you are doing really well on your goals!! I didn’t set many goals for the year – mostly fitness related – so far so good!

Love that yellow sweater and THOSE SHOES!!
